An introduction Beech Class
We are now well into the start of a new school year and the
children have settled in brilliantly. They are all very aware
of the importance and responsibility that Year 6 holds. With it
being their final year in primary school the children are seen
as role models to the children in the younger year groups and
a fine example they are setting too. In addition to this, the
Year 6 children are also working super hard in preparation for
their end of Key Stage 2 SATs tests (something I'm sure you will
be hearing plenty about).
The children fully understand
the significance of monitoring their own learning and progress
throughout the year, a skill that they are beginning to get
very good at. However, they are also very aware that myself
(Miss Hutter), Mrs Godfrey and the rest of the Year 6 team are
always there to teach, support and guide them in the right direction.
Homework
As I'm sure you are aware, there are never enough hours in the
day, and this is particularly true for the school day. So in
order to enhance the children's learning, the children are set
homework on a weekly basis. This term (Autumn term), the children
are set Literacy and Numeracy homework on a Monday, due to be
handed in the following Monday.
The homework is always based on
an area the children have been learning about and the task (differentiated
to the children's needs) is explained to them when the homework
is set. We encourage the children to read through their homework
within a day or two of it being set whilst it is still fresh
in their mind. If the children need further help with their
homework we are more than happy to help them, but they must
ask before the date it is due in to avoid having to complete
their homework during their lunchtime.
A look at the term ahead (Autumn
2009)
Autumn term is always a very busy term in Year 6, with the children
settling in, Mock SATs, Bridgwater fair week, swimming lessons,
productions, and of course all the Christmas festivities in
December. As well as all this we also have our 'Multicultural'
creativity week and National Schools Film Week to look forward
to. Please look out for letters regarding all these events throughout
the term and keep a look out for regular updates and photographs
on the website!
