- Willow at Pinkery
Discover
the adventures of Willow on their residential trip to Pinkery,
Exmoor.
Willow class went on a residential
trip to Pinkery, Exmoor, Devon.
We learnt about a contrasting
locality to where we live in Bridgwater, Somerset. We stayed
in remote countryside, 2 miles from the nearest village. We
were surrounded by moorland, trees, bogs, animals and a large
pond.
We explored the peaceful surroundings
of the moors and undertook an eventful and challenging hike
to Pinkery pond. We overcame the long moor grass, wet, soggy
bogs and deep, steep valleys to eventually reach the large
pond, where it is claimed a man drowned himself!
We bravely went through a pitch black tunnel and came out
orange, due to the iron in the rocks.
We also participated in a range
of adventurous activities like orienteering, archery and a
rope assault course. As well as a problem solving activity,
to produce a boat out of the materials provided, which we
later floated in the stream.
During one of the cold evenings
we went on a walk, with only beams of light from our torches.
It was pitch black, except from the light of the stars high
above.
Everyone got to know one another
so much more and we worked together as a team. We all had
a wonderful time. However we were all glad to return to Bridgwater
with shops, entertainment and the TV at our finger tips.
We were able to share all our
experiences with our families and friends at school.
We continued our learning back
at school. We used our photographs to help us with our Geography
and art work. We have celebrated all our learning by producing
a display. It shows the different compass points and what
can be found at each direction, as if we were back at Pinkery.
We linked our art work and looked at landscapes and different
artists.
